Go private?

I’m wondering about configuring this forum so that only the announcements channel is visible for non logged-in users. This is to reduce the amount of scraping by AI bots, and create less of a ‘public’ feeling where people feel more able to exchange ideas in semi-private. Does anyone have thoughts/feelings about this?

I’m very new here and will likely not do much more than lurk, so don’t give my opinion much weight. However, my two cents is that the public aspect of Sonic Pi’s forum was immensely helpful and contributed to me learning this coding music thing. I never joined Sonic Pi’s forum, but without it hitting my searches, I’m not sure I would be here today.

However, from what I can tell this forum doesn’t have as good SEO. (searching ‘tidal cycles *my issue*' doesn't really bring me here since there's more than just tidal going on) So, it may be moot and being public may not be what brings people here to learn.

I think, from other Discourse forums, that private sections are excluded from the email digest which is what reminds me to visit here.
